On March 23rd, 2024, I went to Ottawa University's open house with my family. My father got his bachelor degree from there, so he is familiar with the campus and was able to guide me around. We started by going to a panel of social science students who spoke about their experience in their respective programs. It was really interesting to hear about the paths they had all taken! One of the students spoke a lot about her exchange trip to Kenya, and another spoke about her volunteering in a psych lab on campus. Hearing about these experiences made me really excited for university and all the opportunities that might come with it. After the panel, I went on a tour of some psych labs. We saw the INSPIRE lab, the memory lab, and the sleep lab. In the memory lab, I saw a real human brain, which was super cool! The sleep lab was also really interesting because while looking at some brain scans, I could recognize brain waves that I learned about in my intro to psychology class. After the tour, I talked to some psychology graduate students about the program and their experience. Even though I don't plan on moving to Ottawa for my bachelor's degree, it was still super fun to visit this university! (I forgot to take any pictures, but luckily my mom took one.)
